Funky Helmet Covers Help Save Lives

Winter has officially arrived here in Suburbia and as is typical I have to fight with my girls to wear their helmets for tobogganing. This year I have a trick up my sleeve, I came across a company who makes awesome helmet covers! Tail-Wags has a big variety of choices at reasonable prices for children and adults. Go on over by clicking the link above or the button in my sidebar, the people in your life will be safer and love the funky covers.

We love the Gladiator and the Missy Mouse the girls chose.

Did you know that only 37% of Canadians over the age of 12 always wear a helmet when bike riding and there are still too many preventable head injuries.

Tail Wags Helmet Covers has launched a major helmet safety awareness campaign: “Mothers Against Naked Riding” (M.A.N.R.). The goal of the campaign is to help mothers win the tug of war with their children over helmet-wearing.

”Many head injuries are preventable with the proper use of a helmet. Wearing a helmet while riding should be as natural as buckling up the seat belt when getting in a car,” says Karyn Climans (owner of Tail Wags). “As a mom, I know how hard the struggle can be to get children to wear their helmets. The M.A.N.R. campaign is specifically targeted at increasing the number of people who wear a helmet while cycling or participating in other dynamic sports.”

The M.A.N.R. campaign features a humorous video that leverages both the literal and figurative meanings of the term “naked riding.” The video is a fun way of raising social awareness of children’s unsafe helmet-wearing habits.  There is also a video that explains the campaign in more detail.

The Mothers Against Naked Riding campaign is seeking the support of all mothers who care about helmet safety. The campaign asks supporters to share on Twitter why helmet safety is important to them (hashtag #StopNakedRiding), and on the Tail Wags Facebook page.

College Expenses High? Save $ by Renting Textbooks

When I went to college I was shocked at the prices of textbooks, with working 3 jobs I barely had enough to eat!

Recently I’ve come across a great company website where you can rent textbooks for a fraction of the cost.

By renting textbooks, you can save  40-90% off of bookstore prices and get free shipping both ways. When you rent the books, you can still highlight in them and you get flexible renting periods.

Campus Book Rentals also donates to Operation Smile with each textbook you rent!

Operation Smile is an international children’s medical charity that heals children’s smiles, forever changing their lives. Since 1982, Operation Smile — through the help of dedicated medical volunteers — has provided more than 2 million patient evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

HEXBUG Review The PERFECT Gift!

With just 2 shopping days left the stores are jammed and we’re frantically finishing up our shopping. If you’re looking for an amazing toy for kids, I’ve got one for you!!

HexbugIf you haven’t heard of HEXBUG, they are amazing creatures! HEXBUG was designed to give children a positive experience with robotics at a young age and when I was offered the chance to review them I jumped at it!

Our little Sydney isn’t easy to shop for, she doesn’t dig Barbie’s or other “girlie” toys and I thought this might be the answer for her!

The day they arrived Sydney was totally jazzed to see that she’d actually been sent something to review. It’s been quite some time since I’ve seen her so engrossed in a gift she’s received.

hexbug Nano

The generous people at HEXBUG sent us the HEXBUG Nano Elevation Habitat Set & the Glows in the Dark HEXBUG Nano Habitat Set.

These sets are perfect for Sydney’s age (7), they’re easy to put together and take apart. They have many different pieces which allow her to be creative and rearrange them as her mood fits….of course Hubby really wanted to help when we first unpacked them.

HEXBUG Nano Elevation Habitat Set comes with 2 extremely rare Nano mutations and 52 easy connect pieces, giving you the freedom to get creative and customize your habitat. Fav Feature: Using the support pieces she can build different levels and be independent of us.

The Glows in the Dark HEXBUG Nano Habitat Set has everything you need to build your own Glows in the Dark HEXBUG Nano habitat, including 2 extremely rare Nano mutations that glow in the dark!

The bugs come in little containers which Sydney is calling their “homes”, I call them great storage…hoping they don’t get left out all over the house because she’s carrying these wee vibrating bugs with her all the time now.

This is the perfect gift for a child who loves to investigate how things work and frankly one who gets bored easily. Usually Syd will spend 5 minutes with something new and then lose interest. With HEXBUGS she’s spending over an hour at a time building, rebuilding and just plain enjoying doing the mathematical work of making a highway for them.

The sets also have little gaps which you cover with flaps when there isn’t a track attached, Sydney has taken to leave these gaps open and watching the bugs fall over the side……that’s my girl!

Thank you HEXBUG for making our hard to shop for daughter so happy!!!

You can find Hexbug online here, on Twitter and on Facebook too.

Costume Supercenter.com HS Musical Gabriella Prom Costume #Review

Review ~ Costume Supercenter.com

Chelsea’s 6th birthday is fast approaching so when I was granted a review of a costume of my choice from Costume Supercenter.com I decided to have Chelsea choose which one she would like, hey they don’t just sell Halloween Costumes!

It was a hilarious process which found this little 5-year-old scrolling through their user-friendly site, she took ages to decide. She took it very seriously and in the end she decided upon the Girls Hs Musical 3 Gabriella Prom Costume in size Small (Chelsea is a size 6).

Who can blame her when it looked so beautiful on the website?

After I’d sent along our choice I actually became concerned, what was I thinking including Chelsea?

What if it looks nothing like the photo and Chelsea is disappointed?

Oh this could have been a huge Mom fail moment, especially because she’s made plans in her mind to wear it for her birthday party!

Well today the package arrived (which is extremely quick, 3 business days!) and she was squealing with delight while tearing at the packaging. Our little Chelsea is destined for the theater somewhere, she was nattering away at herself about the shoes she would choose and which jewellery would compliment the “look”.

This costume is lovely, it fits her well and is of good quality. It has velcro on the back which makes it simple for Chelsea to get into without my help. The flowers and the band in the website photo look pink but the one we received is peach, Chelsea doesn’t mind this at all. Another thing I love is that it’s not itchy, too many costumes itch the kids and we have to wear shirts underneath.

There are little gold sequence along the bustline and a fab headband which matches.

Tell me this isn’t an adorable costume!

Chelsea loves that it has Gabriella’s name etched in gold on the left chest, she tells me to call her Gabriella now.

Costume Supercenter.com has an impressive choice of products, I could easily spend hours on their site browsing and shopping!

I am impressed with this lovely costume and will recommend Costume Supercenter.com to my friends, family and readers. I received a quality costume at a reasonable price in a very quick time!

They also offer costume coupons which makes shopping even simpler.

Step2 Push Around Buggy~Review

If you have a child then you must have heard of the company Step2 by now!

From Step2 website: “Mission:To be the leading innovator of children’s products that build imaginations and enrich the family’s celebration of childhood.”

Step2 has a HUGE announcement to make:

This is a big deal to those of us in Canada with young children, it’s much simpler to order online than to haul the kiddos out to the stores!

Recently Step2 shipped me a Push Around Buggy to review for my readers.

The Push Around Buggy offers another option to parents instead of a stroller! With the seatbelt and little trunk in the front there is safety and storage to go along with the FUN.

As you all know my daughters are past the age for this product, or so I’ve had to tell them since it arrived. I’ve enlisted the help of my very good friend Krista and her lovely daughter Charlotte for this review.

Krista was a good sport, she even assembled the Push Around Buggy for me while I kept Charlotte occupied. I was surprised at how quickly she put it together, there are very few parts and it was a breeze for her!

To say that Charlotte enjoyed the Push Around Buggy is the understatement of the year, check her out in this pic…man she’s so cute!

This toy is fantastic, she loved the squeaky horn and the freedom she felt in it. She kept rocking back and forth, making it move on our wood floors!

Here she is realizing it has a trunk in the front:

With Christmas coming this is definately one for the Wishlist, I know that any little ones on your lists will be happy with the Push Around Buggy!

Step2 has kindly provided my readers with a discount coupon if you order online, simply use the code BLISS10 for 10% off purchase at Step2.com. Valid throughDecember 31, 2011.
