Wrestlemania Reading Challenge & #WWEMoms Twitter Party Alert

wrestlemania superstars

The stars of WWE’s Wrestlemania are at it again, they’re encouraging children to become better readers with the Reading Superstar contest!

Each time the child reads a book they have the chance to WIN prizes,  such as a trip for two (2) to WrestleMania 29, a free library of books for your school, as well as a WWE Superstar visiting your school!I

I am just plain impressed by this campaign, children in the US can sign up on the Wrestlemania Reading Challenge website.

Next they get to scroll through a list of Superstars and choose their reading buddy. This isn’t a simple listing of names, each WWE Superstar has their own page telling you all about them and their hobbies.

Then they get to choose from a library of online books which they can read at their leisure.

This program is presented by the WWE in partnership with the The Pearson Foundation who is donating a book to a child in need every time an online book is read. Children in the US have the opportunity to read books for FREE and gain entries!

We’re talking about the Wrestlemania Reading Challenge on Twitter with the #WWEMoms, come join us and let us know your thoughts!!

WWE Divas Is Smart, Beautiful & Powerful Getting Lost In Sexy Image? #WWEMoms

As a proud member of the #WWEMoms panel I’ve been asked to speak about the WWE Divas and my take on these Superstars. This is a request that made me squirm a bit, as a Mom of two daughters who love the WWE I support their efforts at establishing Superstars who make positive role models and charitable efforts throughout North America….but this topic isn’t as clear cut as when I look at the male Superstars.

The WWE Divas is the term used to refer to females involved in the WWE, from managers, referees, limo drivers and Superstars all of the ladies are Divas. Way back in 2008 the WWE created the Divas Championship, the inaugural champion was Michelle McCool, who defeated Natalya at The Great American Bash on July 20, 2008.

Touted as the smart, beautiful and powerful women of the WWE, the Divas image should proceed them, but is it getting lost in the mass of wind-blown hair, saucy stares and scantily clad photos?

Believe me when I say I’ve chosen the least risqué photos I came across to prove my point.

These women are each Superstars in their own right, actively involved in WWE’s community efforts. They promote anti-bullying, girl power and work hard to become the best at their craft. Sounds like they’d be the perfect role model for young girls doesn’t it?

They truly are if we only look at what they do…..but well what they wear and how they post in photos will surely change some people’s opinions.

WWE-Divas-Sexy-Pose

Photo: WWE Diva focus May 19, 2012

There’s no getting around it, the WWE Divas costumes and attire is designed to show off their bodies in a very provocative manner. All it takes is for someone to head to Google and the results speak for themselves, these Divas are being recognized for their looks and sexy poses rather than their accomplishments.

Personally I do think these women are to be admired, they’ve worked very hard to get where they are. These ARE smart, beautiful and powerful women and it dismays me to see how washed down this side of their image has become. Realizing that sex sells and the WWE audience is a vast array of demographics it’s a difficult balance to strike but this is no excuse for the images which are inappropriate for the younger audiences.

If the WWE hopes to have Moms of young girls and boys on board they really need to work on the image of the Divas, bring more focus upon their works of charity, their amazing community efforts and the physical fitness each of the women are in.

I’m not suggesting that these women need to cover up, but it would be nice if they weren’t being sold as sexual images. If only we could see more images such as these, ones that portray that strength we women admire.

What do you think, is the message promoting smart, beautiful and powerful women lost in all this sex appeal?

Join us tomorrow to chat about it at the #WWE Moms Twitter party…..I have a feeling this will be a lively conversation!

Win A $250 Games & Puzzle Prize Pack From Worth Outset Media

Games

Our family is crazy about games, there is nothing like an evening spent together laughing, scheming or in my husband’s case…cheating…cough. I really do cherish our time as a family with games, it’s refreshing to be able to keep our daughters attention and fully engage with one another.

With Christmas coming I’m on the hunt for GREAT games the family will enjoy, that is why I’m pleased to be able to present you with the chance to win a $250 Game/Puzzle Prize Pack from Outset Media.

Outset Media® is committed to developing games that create truly memorable social experiences and quality built puzzles. We manufacture games that are built to last, with quality construction and materials. And we spend many thoughtful hours developing games with engaging content, so you will want to play them over-and-over again. That is our commitment to you.

Outset Media is a Canadian company which of course gets my attention, they’re located in Victoria, BC and frankly I almost clapped when I saw their game titled Canadian Trivia Family Edition!

Canadian Trivia Family Edition is recommended for ages 8+ and can be played with 2-8 players. I know this would be a challenging game for our family, testing our knowledge of Canada. Thankfully Family Edition cards have two sides – one with easier questions and the other with more difficult questions, which would give me a fighting chance against my children.

This company seems like so much fun, they posted this video where they posed the trivia questions to folks on the street…..part of me is thankful that microphone wasn’t pointed at me! Honestly who knows what the largest rodent in Canada is???? Well I do now after watching….honestly check it out, you’ll be surprised what you don’t know.

I think we can all agree this game looks like it would be really fun, now how would you like to win a Games/Puzzle prize pack worth over $250? Yeah I thought that would go over well.

Entry is simple, just fill in the Rafflecopter form below! Open to US & Canada, ends December 3rd, 2012.

CypherKidsClub Interactive i3D Cards Review

Nowadays the games children play are different than when I was a girl. Our girls do love simple games like pick up sticks but they also adore anything technology based.

CyperKidsClub has new i3D Interactive Cards which are AMAZING. I’ve never seen anything quite like this, it brings games to life right in front of your eyes. I was given the opportunity to review these interactive flash style cards but didn’t really grasp what they were until we received them.

We received 3 sets of cards, Letters, Numbers and Wild Animal Adventures. They are suitable for children 3 and up and require you to download free Apps which you use on iPad 2 or 3 or iPhone 4 or above.

Once I had downloaded the apps (which you can do by searching on the AppStore or by scanning a UPC on the box) we read the directions for Wild Animal Adventures and were on our way to learn.

There are 18 cards with different wild animals on each, from monkeys to lions there was a decent variety. Each card has a picture of the animal on the front and a code in side of a square which your camera reads on the back. We flipped over the card so the back was facing up and opened the app. Once the app is opened we chose the corresponding animal and pointed the iPad approximately 12 inches from the card.

What appeared was fantastic. We had chosen the monkey card first and there he was, standing on a branch on our coffee table. By tilting the iPad while keeping the square within the camera reach we could see different angles of the scene.

I had been concerned that my 8 year old would be too old for these flash cards but she was enamored right away.

There is also a woman’s voice which comes on and recites animal facts in an animated voice. At the end of the description there is an opportunity for the children to interact, the woman tells the kids to touch the screen to make the animal to repeat a move.

I would advise that parents be available while the children are first learning to use the cards because you must keep the square on the back of the cards in full view. My girls repeatedly held too close or moved around too quickly which frustrated them until they got the hang of it.

These would make a great Christmas gift for the children on your list!
