Swim Parent of the Month With @ChickenFarmers

When I was a little girl our next door neighbours had a pool which we were in from sun up to sun down when allowed. Swimming has always been a huge part of my life, swimming lessons were a constant until the age when I became a qualified lifeguard. Now this has extended to my daughters who are either in our pool or in a lake in Muskoka during the warmer months. Swimming is a healthy past time, all of that exercise creates hungry children who are often in need of meals high in protein to keep them going. Chicken Farmers of Canada and Swimming Canada have teamed up to honour swim parents in Canada the swim parent of the month contest.

WIN an iPad Mini for Back To School #iPadMiniBTS

School has begun and we’re beginning to settle into a routine. As a celebration for the beginning of a new school year I’ve teamed up with Stacey from This Lil Piglet and Stacie from Simply Stacie to bring you the iPad Mini Back To School Giveaway.

iPadBTS400DatesNew

Why give away an iPad Mini to celebrate back to school? Well why not! I know someone will be thrilled to have this beautiful device, perhaps to steal a few minutes of their own to watch a movie on or surf the web when nobody in the family is vying for their attention.

The iPad mini is a thinner, lighter, cheaper variant of the iPad as we know it, with a smaller screen and form factor that makes it even more portable than its larger sibling. Thanks to its 4:3 aspect ratio, the iPad mini is actually superior to 7-inch tablets with a wide ratio. That is due to the more surface area available on the device’s screen, which results in a richer web browsing experience

Win an iPad Mini

We’ve invited some fabulous bloggers in and we’ve decided to giveaway 1 16GB iPad Mini valued at $329. to one very lucky reader in either the US or Canada. You must be 18+ to enter, Winner will be drawn on October 5th and have 48 hours to respond.

I’m so excited, good luck!

Chicken Farmers Partners with Swimming Canada! WIN $100 Gift Card!

As the Health Ambassador for Chicken Farmers of Canada, I am super excited to tell you all that Swimming Canada has  announced that Chicken Canada has officially been named the “the official protein of swimming in Canada.”

Swimming Canada is the national governing body of competitive swimming. They encourage Canadians to embrace an active lifestyle of swimming, sport, fitness and health. The federation comprises 75,000 members and 400 swim clubs across the country.

“By naming fresh Canadian chicken ‘the official protein of swimming in Canada,’ this partnership showcases a spirit of cooperation between two organizations that believe in promoting healthy lifestyles,” said Chris Wilson, Director of Marketing & Events at Swimming Canada.

When we think of healthy living, swimming is an activity which comes to mind. Swimming is a low-impact, cardiovascular exercise which almost anyone can participate in, no matter their physical abilities.  Chicken is also a key in healthy living, it’s a valuable ingredient in a well-blanced diet which is essential to healthy living.

As a mother with physical disabilities, swimming is the one activity I can comfortably participate in with my children. From May – September we can be found in our backyard pool or enjoy time swimming in the lake in Muskoka. The number of times we’ve enjoyed BBQ chicken after a day of swimming is too high to count, the two go together for our family.

Game of Life – CAA Life-side Assistance Twitter Party #GameOfLife #CAASCO

My husband and I were commuters for years; my husband still is in fact. He commutes 45 minutes a day to work and proudly claims to use this time in the car as his recharge and relax opportunity. It’s fine and dandy that he enjoys the drive but for me it’s a source of concern.

One of my biggest worries has always been this commute and what we would do in the event that there was a breakdown. It’s not like there are many options when your vehicle isn’t working and you’re stuck on the side of the road.

Or is there?

When we moved here 8 years ago one of my stipulations was a CAA membership. It gives me peace of mind that we’ve got back up in the event that anything should go wrong with our cars.

I promise you that I’ll tell you more about CAA memberships in the future, but today I’m excited to be able to let you know that CAA just launched their “THE GAME OF LIFE – CAA Life-side Assistance Edition

THE GAME OF LIFE – CAA Life-Side Assistance Edition is fabulous. You can play every day between now and November 18th. Every completed game play becomes an entry for the grand prize. There are daily prizes being awarded, along with coupons and discounts!

The grand prize is your choice; would you choose Florida Family Fun, a Peru Panorama or Cruising the Danube??

To celebrate the launch, ShesConnected is hosting THE GAME OF LIFE – CAA Life-side Assistance Twitter party on October 2nd at 8:30p.m. EST where you can win 1 of 5 CAA memberships!!!

WIN $2000 Worth of Chocolate from Nestle – #FavoriteHalloween

bunny costumeUntil I had my first child I wasn’t huge on Halloween, ok as a child I did love going trick o treating but I suspect that had less to do with dressing up and more to do with the free candy. You see I had no creativity, honestly I could never come up with cool costume ideas. Each year I’d hear my friends planning their costumes and weasel my way into being their sidekick somehow.

With the birth of our first daughter as October rolled around something happened, suddenly I was creative!! I fell in love with almost every baby costume I saw. I knew that she’d look adorable in anything but with out cold weather I decided on this adorable bunny costume.

I mean honestly isn’t that the cutest bunny EVER??

carved pumpkinAs the years have passed I’ve had to give up choosing our daughter’s costumes because apparently they now have opinions, instead I design a pumpkin or two to keep my creative juices flowing.

After that first Halloween something happened to me, I finally got into the true spirit and now I love it.

Each year we decorate the house, does end up looking like a mish-mosh of styles which I’m sure my neighbors adore…..I insist on decorating for the Autumn season with mums and corn while my girls are allowed to run rampant with the dollar store spider webs and hanging spiders.

Traditions are important and our family has developed some Halloween activities we do every year. Each member of the family gets to carve their own pumpkin and we display them outside for all of the kids on the street to enjoy. We also enjoy our Town’s Halloween festivities which take place the Saturday before Halloween. The local business association arranges this special day where the kids get to go trick or treating up and down the main street, running in costume from store to store, getting their faces painted and enjoying different activities.

costumeThe girls love this almost as much as Halloween night but there’s nothing like the big event which they wait all year for. The energy after school is always high on Halloween evening and as soon as it begins to get dark off they go! My husband walks the girl through the route the three of them plan while I shell out the treats.

This year I hope to be shelling out enough treats for my entire neighborhood thanks to the amazing contest Nestle has going right now!

My Favorite Halloween contest is taking place on Nestle’s Smarties, Aero and KitKat Facebook pages.

Nestle is enticing Canadians to enter their favorite Halloween pictures to win $2,000 worth of Nestle chocolate for their street for Halloween.

Step Four:

Walmart Has Chosen 8 Finalists for Mom of The Year #MOTY

This year Walmart announced their first ever Mom of the Year contest and the response has been amazing! In total, 16,909 moms were nominated, and now the eight finalists have been selected.

People were given the opportunity to nominate someone in their lives who they felt went above and beyond as a Mom. From the massive number of entries eight finalists were selected and will each receive $10,000 for personal use and $10,000 to the charity they have chosen. Additionally, at the end of September a gala will be held to announce the winner of the  Mom of the Year title , who will receive$100,000 for her charity!

With all of the excitement and inspiration the contest had generated, Walmart has decided to make this an annual event!

The finalists are amazing, I sat in tears reading about the true generosity of spirit these ladies bring to the people and community around them. I was particularly struck by Eileen Thiessen, a lady who brings true meaning to the word loving!

I would like to nominate my mom Eileen Thiessen. My parents have been foster parents for 46 years. I have 3 sisters and 3 brothers, as well as 2 foster sisters. 5 of us are adopted. There are also 5 grandchildren. With the exception of one brother and I, the kids are all mentally handicapped. The kids are all adults now but that didn’t stop my mom from being a mom. She and my dad bought a house a block down from the family home, and the kids stayed in the family home with full time staff. My mom still goes daily to help feed 2 of my sisters and they all come home for church on Sunday and dinner after. My mom has been coaching Special Olympics for the past 15 years. She’s now the head coach of Team Manitoba’s track and field team. My mother is the epitome of what a mother and grandmother should be. She’s the walking embodiment of a Christian woman. She’s been putting others first my entire life and she needs to be first for once.

Eileen has chosen the Special Olympics of Manitoba to receive the $10,000 prize she was given to allocate to charity and I know they’ll find fabulous ways to use that money.

If you’d like to see the other 7 finalists I encourage you to grab some tissues and head over to the Mom of the Year website, it’s inspiring to say the least. Once again this contest will be running next year so begin taking notes of the fabulous Mom’s around you and get ready to nominate in 2013.

Disclosure:I’m part of the Walmart program by Mom Central. I received compensation as a thank you for my participation. The opinions on this blog are my own. @WWE is Family Friendly, Join In On #WWEMoms Twitter Party

Did you know that John Cena (WWE Superstar) recently granted his 300th wish for the Make A Wish Foundation? The WWE has a 25 year tradition of granting wishes, it generally grants 140 wishes a year between requests to meet WWE Superstars or attend live shows.

7 year old Jonny Littman from Pennsylvania is a boy with a spinal condition whose wish was to meet his hero John Cena. The WWE agreed to accommodate his wish by arranging a meeting before an episode of “Raw” live in New York but Jonny was in for a surprise.

Jonny appeared on the television show  “Good Morning America” where Same Champion asked him about the green t-shirt he was wearing. Jonny explained it was John Cena on his shirt and Champion asked the audience if anyone knew the WWE Superstar and at that moment Cena walked to to Jonny and presented him with tickets for the 1,000th episode of RAW on July 23rd in Cena’s personal seats.

To put Cena’s 300 granted wishes in perspective, Michael Jordan has granted around 200 and Kobe Bryant is in the 100-wish range

Join us in celebrating not only John Cena’s 300th wish, but celebrating WWE in general this Wednesday June 27th at 10pm EST as myself and my fellow #WWEMoms have a fun time with our WWEMoms Twitter Party!
